The TERBUAI Collection
Terbuai is inspired by Indonesian heritage and the stunning wonderland of Sumba Island. Phangsanny, the designer, fell in love with the beauty of the island as soon she laid eyes on it: the majesty of its endless hills, its jewel-blue streams, the grandeur of its mountains,... It seemed as if the best of Mother Nature had been poured into that small piece of land. She was also enchanted by the unique local culture, anchored in ancient traditions that are still alive, and charmed by the smiles and lives of the island's inhabitants.
With such powerful inspiration, she launched her prêt-à-porter line. All pieces are made with handwoven Sumbanese cloth (originally named "tenun ikat") and reflect the rich iconography and symbolism of this remote island stuck in time. The fabrics are meticulously weaved by the skilful hands of the local Sumbanese people who transmit their know-how from generation to generation. These textiles take several months to craft (sometimes even up to a year for the most complex patterns) and capture the rich heritage of the island.
